Summary
SeaVelocity does not collect, transmit, sell or share personal data. Location, course, trip and speed data are processed locally on your iPhone. The app uses no account, advertising, analytics or tracking.
1. App provider
SeaVelocity is provided by Jonas Hedberg. Privacy questions can be submitted through GitHub Issues.
2. Information used by the app
When you grant location permission, iOS may provide the app with:
- precise or approximate location, depending on your iOS settings,
- GPS-derived speed over ground,
- course over ground,
- horizontal, speed and course accuracy,
- the timestamp of the location measurement.
SeaVelocity uses this information to calculate and display current, maximum and average speed, GPS status, course, trip distance and active time, the speed alarm, and the rolling 60-minute history.
3. Live Activity
If you enable Live Activity, iOS displays only current speed and the selected unit on the Lock Screen and, on compatible iPhone models, Dynamic Island. Coordinates, course, trip distance, trip time, maximum speed, average speed and history are not displayed in Live Activity.
To keep current speed updated, SeaVelocity may continue receiving location updates in the background while Live Activity is active. You can disable the feature in the app’s Settings. Background updates end when Live Activity is disabled or ended. If the app is force-quit, updates may stop until the app is opened again.
Information displayed on the Lock Screen may be visible to people with physical access to your iPhone.
4. No transmission or tracking
SeaVelocity has no feature that sends location, course, trip or speed data to the developer or any third party. The app uses no advertising, analytics, tracking, account, sign-in, cloud sync or third-party SDKs. Live Activity is updated locally and does not use an external push server.
5. On-device storage
The following information may be saved in the app’s private local settings:
- selected speed unit,
- GPS smoothing preference,
- speed-alarm enabled state and threshold,
- cockpit theme,
- preferences for showing course, the history graph and the unit panel on the main screen,
- the Live Activity preference,
- limited active-trip state so an ongoing trip can be restored after an app restart.
Graph history is held temporarily in memory and is cleared when the app closes or when you clear it. Maximum and average speed belong to the current measurement and can be reset by you after confirmation. This information is not synced to an account or external server.
6. Location permission and your choices
You can deny, limit or revoke location access at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → SeaVelocity. You may also disable Precise Location. Without usable location access, the app cannot measure live speed, course or trips, or update Live Activity.
You control whether Live Activity, the speed alarm, course display, graph and unit panel are enabled.
7. Sound and haptics
If the speed alarm is enabled, SeaVelocity may play a local sound and provide haptic feedback when the selected speed threshold is crossed. No alarm information is transmitted off the device.
8. Children’s privacy
The app requires no account and transmits no personal data. It is not designed to collect information from children or any other users.
9. Security
Keeping measurement data on the device minimizes exposure. You are responsible for your device passcode, iOS updates, Lock Screen settings and other device-security settings.
10. Apple services
Apple and iOS manage system location permissions, Live Activities, Dynamic Island, sound, haptics and local device storage under Apple’s own terms and privacy policy.
11. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the app’s features or data practices change. The latest update date appears at the top of this page.
