Frequently asked questions

Why does the app show 0.0?
The app needs location permission and a current GPS measurement. Move outdoors with a clear view of the sky, wait briefly and check the GPS status at the upper right. Speed may be shown as zero or a dash when the measurement is invalid or stale.
Why is GPS weak or unavailable?
Buildings, roofs, mountains, dense vegetation and indoor environments can reduce reception. Verify that Location Services and Precise Location are enabled for SeaVelocity.
How do I enable Precise Location?
Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → SeaVelocity and enable Precise Location.
Which units are supported?
SeaVelocity supports knots, kilometres per hour (km/h), metres per second (m/s) and miles per hour (mph).
How do I configure the main screen?
Open Settings in the app. You can choose whether course, the history graph and the unit panel appear on the main screen. These preferences are stored on the device.
Where is the graph when it is hidden from the main screen?
When Show history graph on main screen is disabled, a graph button appears with the controls at the top. Tap it to open the dedicated history page. The button is hidden while the graph is already visible on the main screen.
How does the 60-minute graph work?
The graph displays speed measurements from the latest 60 minutes and a line for average speed. The same graph component is used on the main screen and the dedicated history page. History is held temporarily in memory and can be cleared after confirmation.
How do I start a trip?
Wait until the app has a current, usable GPS measurement and tap Start Trip. Active time and calculated distance are shown during the trip. Tap Stop Trip when finished. An active trip can be restored locally after the app restarts.
Why can’t I start a trip?
Trip mode requires a current GPS position with sufficient accuracy. Move outdoors, wait for a better GPS status and try again.
How does course over ground work?
Course over ground, COG, comes from the iOS location measurement and describes the direction in which the device is actually moving. Course can be hidden in Settings and may be unavailable while stationary, moving very slowly or when the measurement is uncertain.
What do Direct, Balanced and Stable mean?
They are GPS smoothing levels. Direct responds fastest, Balanced reduces some variation, and Stable produces calmer readings with slightly slower response.
How does the speed alarm work?
Enable the alarm and choose a threshold in Settings. When speed crosses the threshold upward, the app can provide sound and haptic feedback. A small reset margin prevents repeated alerts while speed fluctuates around the threshold.
How do I open cockpit mode?
Use the cockpit button in the app for a clean full-screen display. It works in portrait and landscape and supports day, night and high-contrast themes.
How do I enable Live Activity?
Open Settings in SeaVelocity and enable Live Activity. It shows only current speed and the selected unit on the Lock Screen and, on compatible iPhone models, Dynamic Island.
Why is Live Activity not updating?
Verify that Live Activities are allowed for the app, that SeaVelocity has location permission and that GPS reception is usable. If the app is force-quit, updates may stop until it is opened again. Live Activity can also be ended from the app’s Settings or by iOS.
Does the app measure in the background?
Measurement is normally intended for use while the app is active. When Live Activity is enabled, SeaVelocity may continue receiving location updates in the background to keep current speed updated on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Background updates end when Live Activity is disabled or ended.
How do I reset maximum or average speed?
Tap Reset beside the relevant value and confirm the action. The confirmation prevents accidental resets.
Does the app work on iPad?
No. The current version of SeaVelocity supports iPhone only.
Does the app show the number of satellites?
No. iOS does not expose a public satellite count to apps. GPS status is instead based on measurement accuracy and freshness.
